LESSON: Do NOT travel with more than $US10,000.00

Pinoy arrives with $140,000, keeps only $10,000

MANILA, Philippines—Authorities apprehended on Wednesday a Filipino passenger who brought in $140,000 cash after arriving at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Carolina Gozon, who arrived aboard Korean Air flight at around 10:30 p.m., was accosted by customs agents after intelligence operatives claimed to have received information that she was carrying cocaine or heroin when she arrived.

No drugs were found, but Customs agents found instead $140,000 in four bundles of 100-dollar bills.

Gozon was later released for further investigation but only with $10,000. The rest was forfeited in accordance with a 1993 Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas circular which forbids outgoing or incoming air travelers from carrying more than $10,000 cash without authorization from the BSP.
